Was Ramanujan the last greatest mathematician on earth?

I have some trouble with Ramanujan's inclusion on the list. Great mathematicians can prove theorems as well as discover/create them, and Ramanujan was severely lacking in this area. He wrote down beautiful formulas with no comment or justification.
