Why do many think God is against knowledge?

If Adam and Eve had abstained from eating of the tree of knowledge, WE would still be in the gaden of Eden, and there would be no physical death. After that, He sent us His word. In the book of Proverbs it is written "my people suffer from lack of knowledge". Since the knowledge of good and evil are now known, He gave us His word to be abel to avoid the evil.
